We need an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the very top. For too long, working families have carried the weight of an economy that hasn't always returned the same commitment to them. I believe that when people work hard, they should be able to support their families, build stability, and look toward the future with confidence and dignity.

I will fight for working families by championing policies that ensure every worker earns a living wage and is able to work in safe, respectful conditions. No one should have to choose between putting food on the table and protecting their health or safety on the job. Work should be a pathway to opportunity, not a struggle just to get by.

That's why I will stand firmly for the rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively. Strong workplaces and strong communities go hand in hand, and when workers have a voice, our economy becomes fairer, more resilient, and prosperous for everyone. Together, we can build an economy that truly rewards hard work and leaves no family behind.

Healthcare is a human right. In the wealthiest nation in the world, there is no reason that every American should not have access to quality, affordable healthcare. No family should have to delay care, ration medication, or fear financial ruin simply because someone gets sick. Our healthcare system should be built around the well-being of people, ensuring that every individual can receive the care they need with dignity and peace of mind.

Access to healthcare should never be dependent on whether or not you have a job. People change jobs, start businesses, go back to school, care for loved ones, or face unexpected life challenges—and their healthcare should not disappear when those transitions happen. A modern healthcare system must provide stability and security so that coverage follows the person, not the employer.

That's why I support Medicare for All, ensuring universal access to care for every American, while also allowing those who prefer to keep their private options the ability to do so. The goal should be simple: expand access, lower costs, and guarantee that everyone in our country can see a doctor, receive treatment, and live healthier lives without fear of losing coverage. When we commit to healthcare as a right, we strengthen not only individuals and families, but our nation as a whole.

Protecting voting rights ensures that every Wisconsinite is able to have their voice heard and their voice counted. Our democracy works best when everyone has the opportunity to participate in it, regardless of where they live, how much they earn, or what their background may be. Voting is the foundation of our system of government, and safeguarding that right is essential to maintaining a healthy and representative democracy.

I will work to ensure that efforts to suppress the ability to vote are not successful. No eligible voter should face unnecessary barriers, confusion, or intimidation when they seek to participate in our elections. We must remain vigilant in defending the integrity of our democratic process while also protecting the fundamental right of every citizen to cast their ballot freely and fairly.

At the same time, we should be making it easier, and not harder, for people to exercise this civic duty. Expanding access to early voting, ensuring fair and accessible polling locations, and protecting secure absentee voting are all ways we can strengthen participation. When more people can take part in our elections, our democracy grows stronger, and our government better reflects the will of the people.

We must stand firmly with our democratic partners and against acts of aggression that threaten global stability. That means continuing to support Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's unjust and unprovoked war. The United States must remain clear in its commitment to sovereignty, international law, and the principle that borders cannot be changed by force.

At the same time, Congress has a vital responsibility to exercise strong oversight over the Executive Branch when it comes to committing American troops to long-term conflicts overseas. The decision to deploy our service members must be made with transparency, accountability, and a clear strategy. We must honor the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform by ensuring that military force is used carefully, deliberately, and only when truly necessary.

America's leadership in the world also extends beyond military strength. We must restore and strengthen programs like the U.S. Agency for International Development so that the United States can continue helping partner nations access the resources and support they need to build stability and opportunity. We must stand with Taiwan in the face of coercion, while preserving and strengthening our partnerships through alliances such as NATO and the United Nations. Through diplomacy, development, and strong alliances, the United States can continue to play its vital role in promoting global stability, cooperation, and principled leadership.

Our farmers feed the country. Every day, they rise before the sun and work long hours to ensure that families across America have food on their tables. They care for the land, support our rural communities, and serve as the backbone of our agricultural economy. If farmers are willing to take care of the nation, then the nation must be willing to take care of farmers. That means making sure they have the resources, stability, and support they need to continue doing this essential work.

I am committed to strengthening the future of agriculture by increasing financial support for farmers through accessible loans, grants, and programs that help them weather economic uncertainty. In Wisconsin, especially, we must provide stronger support for dairy farmers who play such a vital role in our state's identity and economy. We must also invest in rural infrastructure. From roads and broadband to water systems, we must invest so that farming communities can thrive. At the same time, we must protect farmers from harmful and irresponsible tariff policies that create instability in global markets and make it harder for them to sell their products.

Farming is one of the most demanding and stressful professions in the country, and the pressures of the job can take a real toll. That's why we must expand access to mental health services in rural communities so that farmers and their families have the support they deserve. We must also continue working toward meaningful improvements in water quality, protecting both our agricultural future and the natural resources that sustain it. When we invest in our farmers, we invest in the strength, resilience, and long-term prosperity of our nation.

Access to housing is foundational to dignity, stability, and opportunity. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, yet too many families across Wisconsin struggle to find housing that is affordable and accessible. When housing becomes out of reach, it affects every part of a person's life, from employment and education to health and family stability. I believe we must treat housing as a critical priority and work to ensure that every Wisconsinite has access to safe, affordable, and quality housing.

One important step is addressing the barriers that prevent people from buying or renting a home in the first place. Expanding access to fair credit and ensuring accurate home appraisals can help more families achieve homeownership and build generational wealth. At the same time, renters must be protected from discrimination when they rely on housing vouchers or other lawful sources of income. No one should be denied a place to live simply because they are using a housing voucher or another form of assistance designed to help them secure stable housing.

We must also expand the availability of housing itself. That means strengthening policies that increase voucher accessibility so more families can benefit from existing housing support programs. It also means updating zoning policies so communities can responsibly expand multi-family and affordable housing options where they are needed most. By taking a comprehensive approach that removes barriers, protects renters, and increases housing supply, we can ensure that more families have the opportunity to live in safe, stable homes and build stronger futures.

Corporations and the wealthiest Americans must pay their fair share. Our tax system should reward hard work, support families, and invest in the future of our communities. Let's not tilt the scales toward those who already have the most. For too long, working families have carried a disproportionate share of the burden while massive corporations and the ultra-wealthy benefit from loopholes and policies that allow them to avoid paying what they owe. Tax policy should reflect our values, and fairness must be at the center of it.

That’s why I will work to repeal as much of the so-called "Big Ugly Bill" as possible, especially the provisions that harm everyday Americans. We must eliminate policies that threaten Medicaid coverage for vulnerable families, give undue advantages to pharmaceutical companies, or impose new cost-sharing burdens on people who are already struggling with the rising cost of healthcare. Our laws should protect access to care and ensure that powerful industries are not writing the rules at the expense of the public.

We must also put an end to corporate subsidies that come at the expense of working families and small businesses. At the same time, we should work closely with states and local communities to ensure that federal resources actually reach the people and places that need them most. When investments flow to the local level, supporting schools, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development, we build stronger communities and a fairer economy that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.

Guns are now the leading cause of death for young people in our country, and that is a reality we cannot accept. Our children, our families, and our communities deserve to feel safe in their schools, neighborhoods, and places of worship. Young people are counting on us to show the courage and leadership necessary to confront this crisis. Mass shootings and everyday gun violence should never be treated as an unavoidable part of American life—we have a responsibility to act.

We can respect responsible gun ownership while also taking meaningful steps to protect public safety. That means ensuring that firearms are only in the hands of individuals who demonstrate that they can own and use them responsibly. Universal background checks must become the national standard so that every gun purchase includes a thorough review of eligibility. We should also require safety training and licensing so that gun ownership comes with the same level of responsibility and accountability that we expect in other areas of public safety.

At the same time, we must take commonsense steps to reduce the risk of mass violence and prevent tragedies before they occur. That includes restricting high-capacity magazines and automatic weapons to law enforcement and the military, and passing a new federal assault weapons ban. We must also establish federal safe-storage laws to ensure that firearms are properly secured, especially from children. Finally, we should support efforts like Wisconsin’s proposal for extreme risk protection "red flag" laws, which allow courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who have been determined to pose a serious risk to themselves or others. These steps will not solve everything overnight, but they can save lives and help build safer communities for everyone.

We live in the greatest country in the world, and for generations, people from across the globe have come here seeking freedom, opportunity, and a better life for their families. That spirit of hope and determination is part of what makes America strong. At the same time, we must take our responsibility seriously to maintain secure borders and a fair, orderly immigration system. We can be both a nation that protects its borders and a nation that lives up to its values by offering a clear and comprehensive path to citizenship for those who are contributing to our communities.

For too long, immigration has been treated as a political talking point rather than a challenge that requires thoughtful, bipartisan solutions. We must finally come together to pass comprehensive immigration reform that provides clarity, stability, and fairness. Enforcement efforts should focus on individuals who pose genuine threats to public safety (dangerous criminals and traffickers) not on families who have built their lives here and contribute every day to our neighborhoods, workplaces, and local economies.

At the same time, our immigration system must operate with humanity and respect for the rule of law. Individuals going through the immigration process deserve safe and humane conditions while their cases are reviewed. We should restore the efficient issuance of visas for those who qualify so that legal immigration pathways function as intended. And we must rethink enforcement practices so that immigration authorities are focused on serious threats rather than creating fear within communities. By combining strong borders with fairness, compassion, and practical reform, we can build an immigration system that reflects both our security needs and our highest American values.

Access to a quality education is one of the greatest building blocks to a brighter future. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their potential, regardless of the neighborhood they grow up in or the zip code on their address. Education should be the great equalizer in our society, opening doors of opportunity and empowering the next generation to build stronger communities and a stronger nation. That means ensuring that every school has the tools, support, and resources necessary to help students thrive.

To do that, we must fully invest in our public education system. Schools should be funded at levels that allow them to support students in every aspect of their development, including special education services, arts, after-school programs, and the resources needed to meet diverse learning needs. We must also move toward an educational model that focuses on the interests, talents, and potential of each student rather than relying too heavily on standardized testing. And we must ensure that teachers—who carry the immense responsibility of shaping the minds of our nation's future—are paid and supported in a way that reflects the importance of their work.

At the same time, we must strengthen our public schools rather than weaken them. Policies that divert funding away from public schools through voucher programs often leave local schools with fewer resources and greater challenges. Instead, we should be working to reinforce the public education system that serves the vast majority of American students. That commitment should extend beyond high school as well, by making public colleges and universities tuition-free for families earning less than $125,000 a year and providing meaningful student loan forgiveness. When we invest in education at every level, we invest in the promise, innovation, and long-term success of our country.

Greater support for children and family planning should be one of our nation's top priorities. Families are the foundation of strong communities, and we must do more to remove the barriers that make it difficult for people to start and raise a family. Too many parents are forced to navigate rising costs, limited access to care, and a lack of support during some of the most important moments in their lives. If we want families to thrive, we must ensure that our policies reflect the value we place on supporting parents and giving every child the best possible start.

That begins with making childcare more affordable and accessible so that parents can balance work and family responsibilities without facing overwhelming financial strain. We must also strengthen maternal healthcare by increasing support for obstetric services in rural communities, improving Medicaid reimbursement rates, and expanding access to telehealth for patients who may live far from medical providers. By investing in these areas, we can ensure that mothers receive the care they need throughout pregnancy and that families have reliable healthcare support during the earliest stages of a child's life.

At the same time, we must continue to invest in programs that support healthy beginnings for children and provide parents with the tools they need to succeed. That includes backing initiatives like the Healthy Moms and Babies Act and the Newborn Essentials Support Toolkit Act, which help families access critical resources during and after pregnancy. Expanding early childhood education programs, such as Head Start, will also help ensure that young children enter school ready to learn and grow. These are practical, compassionate solutions that can and should earn bipartisan support, because when we invest in families, we invest in the future of our country.

As a veteran and someone who continues to serve in the United States Navy Reserve, I understand firsthand the sacrifices that come with wearing the uniform. Service members spend long stretches away from their families and often miss some of life's most meaningful moments, such as births, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, recitals, and school plays. They carry that burden while standing ready to put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms and support our allies around the world. Because our service members and veterans give so much to this country, we have a solemn responsibility to ensure that our nation stands firmly behind them when they return home.

Honoring that service means backing policies that reflect the sacrifices veterans have made. I strongly support the Major Richard Star Act so that veterans who were medically retired with fewer than twenty years of service can receive both the retirement and disability pay they have earned. We must also expand access to mental health services, recognizing that the invisible wounds of service can be just as real and lasting as physical injuries. In addition, care for veterans returning from combat should never be treated as an afterthought. Funding for veterans' healthcare and support must be included as a mandatory part of any appropriations package that authorizes combat operations.

We must also modernize and strengthen the systems that serve our veterans every day. That means streamlining the process for receiving VA benefits and ensuring that veterans can access timely, high-quality care at VA healthcare centers. At the same time, we must commit ourselves to ending veteran homelessness once and for all by expanding housing support, mental health services, education opportunities, and job training and placement programs. When our veterans come home, they should know that the country they served is ready to serve them in return. Supporting our veterans is not simply good policy, it is a promise we must keep.

Social Security is one of the most important commitments our country has made to its people. For generations, Americans have paid into the system with the understanding that it will be there to provide stability and dignity in retirement. The program can remain solvent and strong for the future, but doing so will require honest conversations and bipartisan cooperation. The longer we wait to act, the more difficult the choices will become, and we owe it to both current retirees and future generations to address these challenges responsibly.

One important step is ensuring that the system reflects fairness in how contributions are made. Higher earners should contribute more by eliminating the taxable earnings cap so that income above a certain level is no longer exempt from Social Security taxes. We should also widen the pool of contributors by requiring all state and local government workers to participate in the system. These changes would strengthen the financial foundation of Social Security while helping ensure that the program remains reliable for decades to come.

At the same time, we must prepare for the ways a changing economy will impact the program's long-term stability. New technologies, including the growing role of artificial intelligence, may reshape the workforce and affect future payroll tax revenues, and we must study and plan for those changes now. As we make reforms, we must also remain committed to protecting benefits for low-income earners and updating cost-of-living adjustments so that they truly keep pace with inflation. Social Security is a promise, and with thoughtful, bipartisan action, we can ensure that promise endures for generations to come.

With the recent expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in December 2025, we have an important opportunity to reassess how our tax system works and who it works for. Tax policy should promote economic growth while ensuring fairness and responsibility. Working families and the middle class should not be left carrying the burden while some of the largest and most profitable corporations are able to avoid paying what they owe. A balanced and responsible tax system must ensure that success in our economy also comes with a fair contribution to the country that makes that success possible.

That means putting in place common-sense measures that ensure corporations pay their fair share. Enforcing a 15 percent Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax will help prevent highly profitable companies from using complex accounting strategies to reduce their tax bills to near zero. At the same time, adjusting the corporate income tax rate to 25 percent would help restore balance while still keeping the United States competitive in the global economy. We must also close the loopholes that allow corporations to shift profits or exploit gaps in the tax code to avoid their obligations.

We must also think ahead about the future of the global economy and how emerging technologies will shape government revenue. Strengthening the global minimum tax rate to at least 15 percent will help prevent multinational corporations from shifting profits overseas to avoid taxation. At the same time, policymakers must carefully examine how the growing use of artificial intelligence and automation could affect the workforce and future tax revenue streams. By taking a thoughtful and forward-looking approach, we can build a tax system that supports innovation while ensuring that prosperity is shared and that our nation has the resources needed to invest in its future.

The greatest gift we can give ourselves and future generations is the preservation of our democracy and ensuring that it truly works for everyone. Our government exists to serve all Americans, not just those with the most wealth, the longest tenure in power, or the loudest voices. A healthy democracy depends on trust, fairness, and the belief that every citizen has a meaningful role in shaping the direction of the country. When people believe their voices matter and their votes count, our institutions grow stronger, and our nation becomes more resilient.

To protect that foundation, we must be willing to have honest and thoughtful conversations about reforms that strengthen democratic institutions. That includes examining the structure of the Supreme Court and exploring whether expansion could help ensure the Court remains balanced and reflective of the nation it serves. We should also have a serious discussion about term limits for federal officials and judges, ensuring that leadership remains accountable and that new generations of public servants have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and perspectives.

We must also take meaningful steps to ensure that the political process itself is fair and representative. Ending partisan gerrymandering and empowering independent redistricting commissions would help guarantee that voters choose their representatives, not the other way around. We must also work to overturn the effects of the Citizens United decision so that the voices of everyday Americans are not drowned out by unlimited money in politics. And as we look toward the future of civic participation, we should explore ideas such as lowering the voting age to sixteen, encouraging young people to engage early in the democratic process, and strengthening civic participation for generations to come. Protecting and improving our democracy requires courage, open dialogue, and a shared commitment to ensuring that our government truly reflects the will of the people.
